Luanti Without Losing a Block, Part Two: What v2.0.0 Brought and Why No More Nodes Fit

Our blocky world has been running for five years — it started as a Minetest server for builders and players. After years of “somehow working”, this year brought a restart: part one told how a five-year-old world moved to the Luanti 5.17.0 engine without losing a single block, and version 1.0.0 of 25 September 2026 was released. Nineteen days have passed since, and here is version 2.0.0 of 14 October 2026.

This article has two halves. The first is about what the update brought: three waves of new content, about 1,500 new recipes, a guide right in the game, fixes you will notice, and one honestly measured finding at the end — the node budget is full. The second is an invitation: what you as a player will experience, build and play on our server — and how to join.

In part one we moved a five-year-old world from Minetest 5.4.1 to Luanti 5.17.0 without losing a single block and released version 1.0.0 with 138 mods (game extension packs). The engine has stayed the same since — Luanti 5.17.0 (changelog) — and so has the game (minetest_game c42e4d0c). Version 2.0.0 is therefore purely about content and about the certainty that it lasts: 108 new mods (from 138 to 246). The list of all nodes in the game grew by 2,765 to 35,590 — and that is where our story begins. All numbers in this article are measured from the repository and the v2.0.0 release notes, not estimated.

Three waves of new content

It all started with a first wave that was workshop, not content: checks, boot fixes, recipe fixes and the foundations of the in-game guide. New content arrived only in the later waves, each with its own recipe and safety round. Wave two brought water and air: a motor boat (motorboat), a helicopter and aeroplanes (airutils), an ATM economy, a fishing pack and pressure tanks for divers. The third wave added machines and food for tinkerers: a digging machine (digtron), logistics warehouses (logistica), drawers (drawers), a saw, a wrench, a metro set, doors, a tunneller with a crane, sickles and a whole range of food from drinks through cakes and sandwiches to cheese and a pizzeria. The fourth wave added trifles and festivities: bulletin boards, confetti, a fishing boat, invisible blocks, racing, lanterns, eyes, flags, scaffolding, snowmen, plus enchanting, graffiti, plushies and furniture. Older mods were updates to the newest versions from their authors at the same time. Everything is locked to exact upstream revisions in the locked-versions list, so what works today will run after the next deploy too.

What you see is what you make

You know it from other servers: you find a beautiful cabinet or stairs, but there is no crafting recipe — the block can only be found, never made. This update fixes that at scale: about 1,500 blocks from the new sets got honest recipes from base materials — stairs, walls, facades and stonework shapes by the TumeniNodes author, furniture gaps, garden stone, steel doors and trifles. What you see is what you make. You will notice the difference right away: open the crafting menu and the things that could never be made are simply there. For the curious: the recipes live in the craft_recipes.lua file, which strictly adds and never breaks — every batch is checked against a dump from the running server, so a recipe in the file and a recipe in the game are the same thing.

A guide right in the game

And when you are stuck, ask the game itself. The new mm_info mod is a guide right on the server, in Czech and English — five tabs: guides, commands, rules and links. The guides tell you how, the commands what you can do, the rules what is allowed, and the links where to go next. The links are clickable, the texts went through a word-by-word review and every item shows its source project too. And whoever craves more mods will find them in the open ContentDB catalogue. A newcomer won’t feel lost, even without reading the website: they can discover what is enabled, how to control things, and where to find items — all directly within the game.

Fixes you will notice

You can feel them in the game. Character movement is predictable — armor is no longer counted twice, and player speed does not increase unexpectedly (fixed playerplus v2 movement set). Weather follows server rules: fog is disabled, snow no longer damages buildings and ice slips as it should. Chairs and benches have levelled seats and camera eyes, and you stand up with movement keys from any side. And then trifles: fixed mithril award triggers (moreawards), a lamp direction, tiles, a moss-fungus recipe, a shop crash at boot, the fireworks name, a mod downloader that routes around a broken mirror, and a skins updater that walks all pages. None of this is visible — but it can be felt.

Why it just works

The server runs 246 mods — and yet the world does not fall apart. The reason is simple, even if it sounds technical: before anything reaches the server, it passes automatic checks. In version 1.0.0 they only reported; in 2.0.0 they forbid — they watch images and sound, land protection, chairs and sitting, recipes and the whole map including its old corners. Every change passes tests before upload, and only a locked, verified state reaches the server. The test world therefore boots with zero errors. And joining is faster, because leftover build ballast is gone.

A full budget: the ceiling and honest cuts

And then came our own measurement with a ceiling: around 36.0 thousand nodes a client still connects, and around 36.7 thousand never again. Our list has 35,590 nodes — about 410 left, that is 1.1%. When one mod with stairs added 4,487 nodes and the list jumped to 39,436, it was removed the same day. The rule has been simple since: no new mod with nodes without throwing away at least as many old ones. The plan for the future was therefore rewritten from wishes to limits: the budget is full, every new node is paid for with a removed one.

Cuts touched only what cannot harm the map: spare landscape generators, one-to-one duplicate block sets, the griefer class (player killer, igniter, teleport traps, trampoline, molehill) and dead weight (tree capitator, dream bar, hands, experience, megaphone, doors merged upstream). Every cut is zero-node or duplicate — nothing the saved map would miss.

Transport that carries the whole server

A day on the server can start on a platform: board a set, ride through the landscape and get off a few stations later — or hop into a boat and sail. Railways are the strongest side of the world. The base is advtrains with sounds and signals, next to it run moretrains sets from basic through gondolas, industrial, Japanese and night-line to steam and vintage, dlxtrains industrial and support cars and metro sets including low-floor cars. Automobiles serve the roads, from a beetle through a delorean to a vespa; a motor boat and a fishing boat serve the water; a helicopter, a sports plane and an airship serve the air. Tracks are built from signals, switches and platforms — full transport, not a backdrop.

Home sweet home: over two thousand pieces

Furnishing a flat takes an afternoon, not weeks. There are over two thousand purely decorative nodes in the game — the homedecor, ma_pops, artdeco, multidecor (from the authors), xdecor and school sets: bathrooms, bedrooms, a kitchen with a working fridge and microwave, offices, medieval furniture, libraries, clocks, paintings, curtains, carpets, school benches and fire extinguishers. Plus road and pavement parts. Move the furniture in during the afternoon, switch the lights on in the evening. Lights, switches and wires come from the mesecons system from a button to a programmable block. There are hundreds of chairs and benches to sit on — the seat check watches that every seat has the right height, camera eyes and safe standing up.

Games inside the game

And in the evening? A board game with friends, basketball, fireworks over the pub with a grill. The world can be played, not just built. Sixteen board games, basketball with ball physics and anti-grief protection, a music pack with cave sounds, a race track, fireworks and enchanting with sorcery. The fauna counts over ten families — birds, fish, sharks, jellyfish, turtles, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, horses and two sets of monsters including skeletons. Weather watchers get a regional forecast. Whoever wants can build a school for shared projects or a pub with a grill — the grill set has stood still upstream since 2019, but it runs reliably on our locked revision.

Three worlds and how to join

The world has its own economy: ATMs with accounts, a scripted shop and land protection, so trading works with no admin. Players who build and take on challenges collect awards from two sets — including the fixed mithril ones; leaderboards compare performances and backpacks and inventory pockets protect things on the road. The game runs on three worlds — survival for honest building, creative for builders without limits and devel for trying novelties before deploy.

All you need is the Luanti client (free, open) and three details. The address is my-web.xyz, ports 30001 (survival), 30003 (creative) and 30002 (devel) — all verified on 14 October 2026 in the live server list and in the repository description. In the client, search for “Minetest-MM”, pick a world, choose a name and a password and registration completes itself. A newcomer gets basic rights (interact, shout, home); flying and unlimited building is creative-only. Capacity is 40 players per world. The server is open to everyone: registration is free, the rules are in the info mod right in the game and apply to all equally. Anyone who wishes to build, observes the rules, and follows the fundamentals of decent behavior is welcome.
